From the countryside of Ireland
Homesick for New York

Homesick for New York

Oh I’d love to be lost in the place where you can’t go astray
And I’d love to be found in the town where the streets they run straight
Oh I love New York, to walk in the crowds all alone
I’m homesick for New York I hate leaving New York
Homesick for New York,‘though New York it was never my home

And when I go there Manhattan’s the place I love best
Take a stroll in Times Square walk from East River to West
And I’m touching the clouds and I feel like a King on a throne
I hate leaving New York, I’m g’on to stay in New York
I’m homesick for New York, though New York it was never my home

And you say that we’ll meet where an Avenue meets with a Street
And we’ll go to a bar, take a cab though it’s not very far
And we’re out until dawn for we know our time here is not long
I’m going to stay in New York. I hate leaving New York
I’m homesick for New York, though New York it was never my home

Back home in my dreams I dream of a town never sleeps
And I’m going back soon to be lost in the crowds in the streets
Going back to New York, dreaming of New York
Homesick for New York
‘Though New York it was never my home.

My favourite idea of a holiday is visiting my friends and many relatives in the New York area. Although I have been there many times l always look forward to returning there. I had composed this song just prior to the Nine/Eleven tragedy and have only been singing it for about a year.
